It’s
a land of castles and corner pubs. Proper English and cockney accents.
Formal courts and speakers’ corners. England definitely has
its share of contrasts. Kensington, a borough of west London, has
that same curious combination of tradition and change. Interestingly,
the Kensington bed is also modern and old-fashioned—all within
the same frame. The camelback headboard and footboard are certainly
traditional. Widely spaced vertical bars line up just like the changing
of the guard. Scrolled “S” designs and an inverted “C”
curve with a flourish. Scalloped shells grip the posts and the second
curved lines of the headboard and footboard. Four mushroom capped
feet blossom against the floor, with globe finials donning the tops
of the posts. Yet the finish and overall design of the bed somehow
come off with a modern tone. Perhaps it’s the cool metal frame.
Or that the scrolls are a little too dashing for an old-fashioned
palate. Whatever the case, the Kensington is designed to please.
The Dusty Silver finish is aptly named with its rough hewn, textured
surface. It has a distinct range of coloration, from deep gray to
bright silver—almost as if a dust storm blew in and scattered
the rich colors throughout the frame. This highly popular, durable
finish fits well with many personalities. It is manufactured in
full, queen, and king sizes. The Kensington is available as a panel
only with all the tools required to attach it to your existing standard
sized metal bed frame. The Panel is the piece that is used interchangeably
as the head board panel and footboard panel. The difference is that
you put leg extenders into the headboard panel. The king size headboard
can be used with an adaptable cal-king metal bed frame to work with
any standard cal-king sized mattresses.
